About Me
I am originally from the UK and have since returned to my Caribbean roots in Barbados, where the ocean and natural world are an everyday source of inspiration. I am a storyteller, animal advocate, dedicated to promoting compassion, kindness, and respect for animals through my work.
I share my home with cats, all of whom are rescues. While they may have been saved in the traditional sense, I often say they rescued me just as much. Their presence has deepened my understanding of empathy, patience, and the quiet ways animals enrich our lives.
My journey has always been shaped by a deep love for the natural world and the animals we share it with.
Advocacy in Action
My work extends across media, education and creative projects. I am the editor and publisher of Animal Talk, a Caribbean animal welfare magazine created to highlight important issues, share knowledge and celebrate positive change in Barbados and beyond. I host a podcast and radio show, and appear on television, using media to give a voice to animals and to the people working to protect them.
As a trustee of an animal welfare charity, I have been involved in advocacy, education and community initiatives addressing animal welfare issues in Barbados, including the importance of stronger enforcement of animal protection legislation.
I create children's books that explore animals, wildlife and conservation. Through storytelling, I aim to gently educate children, encourage curiosity and help remove fear around animals. My hope is that these stories inspire compassion, empathy and a deeper respect for all living beings.
I am also the founder of La Cat Connoisseur, a merchandise brand created for cat lovers, and Gail Jewel's Wildlife Totes, bringing my love of animals into creative and practical products.
